fre:ac v1.1 Print

fre:ac version 1.1 has been released on 29th March 2020 and is now available for download!

This is a major release with more than 80 new features compared to fre:ac 1.0.33. Highlights include:

  • Availability for macOS and Linux, in addition to Windows
  • Availability of 64 bit versions for Windows and other operating systems
  • Support for dark mode on Windows and macOS
  • A reworked conversion engine with support for multi-threading and parallel processing
  • An integrated tag editor with support for cover images
  • An extension for simultaneous output to multiple formats
  • Support for new codecs including Opus, Apple Lossless, Monkey's Audio, WavPack and others
  • Support for DSP filters and lossless file verification
  • Support for multi-channel audio
  • Support for managing multiple configurations
  • Support for writing log files

Upgrading to fre:ac v1.1 is recommended for users of fre:ac 1.0.33 or earlier and strongly recommended for users of fre:ac v1.1 preview releases.

fre:ac v1.1 Release Candidate 2 Print

fre:ac v1.1 Release Candidate 2 has been released and is now available for download!

This release updates codecs and translations and fixes several issues found in fre:ac v1.1 RC 1:

  • Fixed inability to read raw AAC files with the FAAD2 decoder
  • Fixed inability to create WMA files with long path names
  • Fixed cursor positioning and text selection in right-to-left mode
  • Fixed cursor position calculation not respecting kerning on Windows 10

Upgrading to the 1.1 RC 2 release is recommended for users of the RC 1 release and strongly recommended for users of previous alpha or beta releases. All users of the stable release of fre:ac are encouraged to try this RC instead. Please report issues on the GitHub issue tracker or by email to support@freac.org.

fre:ac v1.1 Release Candidate 1 Print

fre:ac v1.1 Release Candidate 1 has been released and is now available for download!

This release improves the freaccmd command line tool, makes HiDPI display detection on Linux work more reliably and fixes several issues found in fre:ac v1.1 Beta 3:

  • Fixed drag & drop not accepting long file paths on Windows
  • Fixed file modification time stamp getting lost when output verification is active
  • Fixed file creation time stamp not being preserved despite option being enabled
  • Fixed freaccmd not correctly handling relative output folders
  • Fixed black title bar color on Windows Vista, 7 and 8/8.1
  • Fixed online updater not working

Upgrading to the 1.1 RC 1 release is strongly recommended for users of previous alpha or beta releases. All users of the stable release of fre:ac are encouraged to try this RC instead. Please report issues on the GitHub issue tracker or by email to support@freac.org.

fre:ac v1.0.33 Print

fre:ac version 1.0.33 has been released on 12th February 2020.

This release improves compatibility with newer Windows features, updates codecs and translations and fixes several issues found in earlier releases:

  • Improvements
    • The fre:ac installer is now digitally signed
    • Prepared for freedb.org shutdown on 31st March 2020
    • Rip only tracks from the newly inserted disc when auto-ripping
    • Do not start ripping automatically if no freedb entry is found
    • Improved compatibility with ADTS AAC files
    • Using high resolution icons from fre:ac 1.1 branch
  • Bug fixes
    • Fixed compatibility issues with Windows 10 UTF-8 codepage setting
    • Fixed hangs when trying to open some Windows Wave files
    • Fixed setup not running with elevated rights on non-administrator accounts
    • Fixed freaccmd issues with files without metadata

Upgrading to fre:ac v1.0.33 is recommended for all users of earlier versions. You can download it from the downloads section of this site.

 
fre:ac v1.1 Beta 3 Print

fre:ac v1.1 Beta 3 has been released and is now available for download!

This release adds support for dark mode on Windows 10, now displays the currently configured DSP filters in the main window and fixes several issues found in fre:ac v1.1 Beta 2:

  • Fixed compatibility issue with Windows 10 UTF-8 codepage setting
  • Fixed FLAC decoding on macOS
  • Fixed issues opening Opus files with a .ogg extension
  • Fixed Monkey's Audio encoder not showing up in 64 bit builds
  • Fixed some issues with freaccmd command line interface

Upgrading to the 1.1 beta 3 release is strongly recommended for users of previous alpha or beta releases. All users of the stable release of fre:ac are encouraged to try this beta instead. Please report issues on the GitHub issue tracker or by email to support@freac.org.

fre:ac v1.1 Beta 2 has been released and is now available for download!

This release adds support for accent colors on Windows 10 and fixes several issues found in fre:ac v1.1 Beta 1:

  • Fixed an IO subsystem issue causing corrupted output files in some cases
  • Fixed SuperFast LAME repacker causing glitches in output files in some cases
  • Fixed gapless decoding of MP3 files created with FFmpeg
  • Fixed inability to update ID3v2 and APEv2 tags in tag editor
  • Fixed inability to exit application after ejecting a disc while ripping
  • Fixed hangup when ejecting a disc while adding its tracks to joblist
  • Fixed minimum and maximum bitrate values being mixed up in Vorbis configuration dialog

Upgrading to the 1.1 beta 2 release is strongly recommended for users of previous alpha or beta releases. All users of the stable release of fre:ac are encouraged to try this beta instead. Please report issues on the GitHub issue tracker or by email to support@freac.org.
